Webinar: Running Agents in Customer Work
Agents used to answer questions. Now they're doing the work: issuing refunds, updating accounts, closing tickets end to end. Running Agents in Customer Work is four 30-minute conversations with the people building, buying, and living with agentic AI in customer operations, no pitch, no product walkthrough.
Four Tuesdays, Oct. 13 through Nov. 3, 10 a.m. PT. Register free, one sign-up covers all four.

Shopify Canvas: chat with Sidekick, watch the real store update live. Cyber Signal · Oct 1, 2026
If you’ve ever opened Shopify’s theme editor, rearranged a hero section, then quietly gave up before the “bespoke store in your head” showed up on screen—you’re not alone. On October 1, 2026, Shopify launched Canvas: a design surface where you build and edit a store by chatting with Sidekick, Shopify’s AI agent, while the real storefront code updates in front of you.
That’s the fun part. This isn’t a pretty mockup. Shopify says Canvas renders the actual theme files Sidekick is changing, so you can poke at interactivity, animations, and different screen sizes as the store comes together. Sidekick even screenshots its own work so it can see what you’re seeing.
What’s actually new
Sidekick isn’t brand new—it’s already been writing code, building apps, and customizing themes (Shopify says it made more than twenty-five million theme edits in the first half of 2026). Canvas is the missing workspace: pan across every page, zoom into a detail, keep chatting, or click an element yourself when you just want a quick tweak.
Under the hood, Shopify gave Sidekick direct access to theme files and simplified theme architecture so structure, logic, and design are easier for the agent to understand and change. Ben Sehl, Director of Product at Shopify (and co-founder of Kotn), put the speed pitch simply: what once took him two weeks of coding for a rough store can now land as a fully custom Shopify store in about twenty minutes for a merchant who knows what they want.
Try this when Canvas shows up in your admin
Canvas is rolling out over the coming days—not every store will see it at once. When it does appear, these prompts and habits travel well:
Lead with vibe, then products. Start a Canvas chat with brand feel before SKUs: “Minimal jewelry shop, soft neutrals, quiet luxury, sticky add-to-cart, lookbook-style homepage.” Give Sidekick a springboard, then refine.
Ask for a full-store pass, not one section. Try: “Lay out home, collection, product, and about so they feel like one brand—then zoom the product page for mobile.” Canvas is built for seeing the whole store at once.
Use the hybrid loop. Let Sidekick do the big moves in chat, then click individual elements for tiny fixes. You’re not locked into conversation-only editing.
Preview like a picky shopper. Check interactivity and screen sizes in the live render before you celebrate. If something feels off, tell Sidekick what you see (“hero feels cramped on mobile—more breathing room above the CTA”) instead of restarting from scratch.
Know the launch gaps
Shopify is refreshingly blunt that Canvas is early and not replacing the existing editor yet. At launch, expect limits around third-party theme support, app blocks/extensions, markets, translations, rollouts, and theme updates. TechCrunch also notes Canvas is desktop-only for now. If your store leans hard on apps or international markets, treat Canvas as a powerful sketchpad—and keep the classic editor in your back pocket.
Why it matters (without the hype fog)
Canvas sits in a bigger wave of AI site builders—from Wix and Squarespace to vibe-coding tools—but Shopify’s version is interesting because it edits commerce-native theme code with an agent that already lives in the merchant admin. For solo founders and small teams, that can shrink the gap between “I can see it” and “customers can click it.” For everyone else, it’s a reminder: the winners won’t be the people who type the longest prompts—they’ll be the ones who can describe taste clearly and iterate fast.

That’s the signal for today. If Canvas lands in your store this week, steal one of the prompts above and tell us what Sidekick got gloriously right—or hilariously wrong.
